LeverageTek is a proud advocate of many local and international charities whose work touches the lives of countless individuals and families in the National Capital Region and around the world.

Dress for Success is a national charitable organization dedicating to empowering women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the career development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

For more than 10 years, Dress for Success Ottawa has worked with thousands of women in our community to help find meaningful employment and empowerment. In 2022 alone, the organization provided services to more than 800 women.

LeverageTek has provided not only financial support to the organization, but has also hosted information sessions for Dress for Success clients. These sessions have included an overview on LinkedIn and its effective use in a job search and networking and a LeverageTek created training session on working with Recruiting companies.

LeverageTek has also organized a fundraising campaign for the Ottawa chapter collecting (and matching) financial donations along with gently used purses and jewelry.

Capital City Condors: The LeverageTek Charity Hockey Challenge

In 2016, LeverageTek created the Corporate Hockey Challenge in support of the Capital City Condors. The Condors are a family of hockey teams for those who are unable to play on other teams due to cognitive and/or physical disabilities. With six teams participating (LeverageTek and five customer teams), an annual tradition was underway!

LeverageTek hosted 4 tournaments between 2016 – 2019, and also had the opportunity to skate with Condors players in several fun games. During that time, members of the LeverageTek team have had the chance to meet some of the players and families of the Condors and are incredibly touched by the great work the organization does. The Condors have a saying ‘Bigger Than Hockey’ and after seeing the smiles of those players and families – you quickly realize why.

Unfortunately, the pandemic put the tournament on hold for several years, however LeverageTek remained a participant in the Condors charity golf tournament in held annually in June in the National Capital Region.

LeverageTek is excited to once again host its Charity Hockey tourney in April 2024 and looks forward to engaging with its customers to help support this wonderful organization.

Through team fees and donations – LeverageTek has raised more than $30,000 for the organization to date. That money is used to help purchase ice time, provide equipment for those who require additional support while on the ice and to assist with overall program funding. LeverageTek has been a proud supporter of the CHEO Foundation since 2010. LeverageTek has sponsored CHEO’s Caring for Tiny Hearts Magazine which profiles several of the Hospital’s former patients. Everyone who lives and works in the National Capital Region has benefited directly or indirectly from the tremendous work that CHEO does in our community. With many of the LeverageTek team raising young families, we know all too well about bringing children into CHEO’s care. We look forward to continuing our support of CHEO in the years to come!

We live in challenging times and the expense to feed a family has never been more pronounced. With food inflation, many struggle to provide healthy meals for their families.

Local food banks have always played a critical role in our communities and their importance has only increased since the COVID pandemic. At the outset of the pandemic in March of 2020, LeverageTek initiated a donor matching program with both internal colleagues and its consultant community. For every dollar donated, LeverageTek would match. Over 10 days in early April 2020, LeverageTek proudly raised $7,000 for the Ottawa food bank.

In 2021, LeverageTek was a founding participant in the Ottawa Food Bank’s Adopt-A-Crop program. Organizations provide a financial contribution to the organization and then provide volunteers to assist with its farm program. LeverageTek colleagues have given over 250 volunteer hours in 3 short years. The farm provided more than 175,000 pounds of fresh produce to the community.

LeverageTek’s financial contributions to the Food Bank have totalled more than $20,000 in 3 years and we look forward to continued support in 2024.

Childhood critical illness is devasting news for families and their loved ones. Make-A-Wish is a charitable organization dedicated to providing hope to children who are battling critical illness. Research shows that wishes help to improve a child’s quality of life and even produce better health outcomes. LeverageTek’s extended community has been touched by Make-A-Wish and have seen the joy that comes from a child’s wish being granted during an incredibly difficult time.

LeverageTek has signed up as a sponsor of Make-A-Wish’s Calendar of Wishes 2023 campaign. Through the company’s donation, a child living with Cystic Fibrosis experienced his wish to swim with sea turtles come true when his family travelled to Hawaii earlier in the year. An experience of a lifetime and positive memories to draw upon during his health journey.

In 2015, LeverageTek invested in local hockey programs by creating the LeverageTek Wolves – a girls and boys youth hockey association whose mandate is to encourage an enjoyable ‘team-first’ hockey experience where life values reflecting integrity, effort and respect for others are practiced in a Fair Play environment that encourages learning and development.

Since those first teams took the ice in 2015, hundreds of children from the National Capital Region have worn the LeverageTek Wolves jersey and represented their team in tournaments across Ontario, Quebec and into the Northeastern United States.

Cynthia Daprat, wife of LeverageTek founder and CEO, Tony Tornberg, manages the program and ensures that teams are appropriately funded and takes care of booking ice for the 10-12 teams that participate each year in the program. The Wolves program has seen a significant growth in girls hockey teams since its inception. More than 80% of participants are female.
